Why We Built RenkuOS
We loved Haiku OS — its speed, elegance, and BeOS heritage. But when we tried to bring modern AI and LLM tools into our development workflow, we hit walls. The ecosystem simply wasn't there yet. So we forked it.
RenkuOS is Haiku with the doors opened wide: AI-assisted coding, LLM integrations, and a community that welcomes every kind of contributor — human or otherwise.
The Name
Renku is a form of Japanese collaborative poetry where many voices contribute to a single poem, each verse building on the last. It felt like the perfect name for an operating system built by a community, one contribution at a time.
